Star Wars upcoming AR Project

On the 16 June 2016 (2 days ago) a video of an experiment of mixed reality content ended up on Youtube showcasing what might be an upcoming project by ILMxLAB,  a branch company of Lucasfilm responsible for creating immersive content. If you paid attention on their channel, you might recognise ILMxLAB for the Virtual Reality teaser video called "Trials of Tatooine". Well this time, they are teaming up with MAGIC LEAP company for this project alone. Check out the video below:

The video shows what it looks like an animation of R2D2 and C-3PO overlaid onto a background of a room filled with a sofa and a picture on the wall using augmented reality technology. At a single glance, this looks like a video that has undergone visual effects wizardry, but the description in the video says otherwise.

"shot directly through MAGIC LEAP Technology"

This is only footage available online for Star Wars, but there are several other videos that showcases MAGIC LEAP technology with the same description such as the one below:

We like to think that Lucasfilm was trying to create a hype by uploading this video on Youtube and disabling the comments so no one can ask what they are really working on. But so far, this video has only got 160,000. So.. is this a FAIL? NO? or too early to tell?

Let us know about your opinion about this Lucasfilm project or about the technology down in the comments. We will be covering the story about what is MAGIC LEAP and what makes Lucasfilm wants to partner up with them in this new project in the next post so stay tuned.
